Do You Need a Split-Step? | Improve Your Timing in Tennis

You’ve probably had a coach tell you at some point that you NEED to use a split step.

But is it really necessary?

In this video, Ramon will show you that while a split step is helpful… it’s not necessary to get 12 inches off the ground.

The reason is, having too big of a split step can actually negatively affect your timing. This is because, by the time you land… you’re already late to the ball.

What he suggests, instead, is to take a mini hop… and make sure to land on your toes with a wide base, and your knees slightly bent.

Follow these simple rules for your split step, and your timing will instantly be better because you’ll be dynamically prepared to go hit the next ball.
